Ellen DeGeneres is defending a photo of her sitting next to former U.S. President George W. Bush.

DeGeneres posted a video on her Twitter talking about the back story regarding the photo that caused social media backlash.

The comedian said she and her wife, Portia DeRossi, were invited to a Cowboys game in Texas where she sat next to the former president and first lady.

A photo showing DeGeneres and Bush laughing while sitting next to each other was posted to Twitter and immediately received criticism from people who were upset that DeGeneres was sitting next to a person who did not share her same values.

"I'm friends with a lot of people who don't share the same beliefs that I have," DeGeneres says in the video response. "We're all different. And I think that we've forgotten that that's okay that we're all different."
