All-star baseball team looks to Treasure Coast community for help getting to regionals (WPEC)

Beating the best of the best to qualify for a regional baseball game is like beating the odds for one team on the Treasure Coast.

The Cal Ripken all-star baseball team, based in Vero Beach, is hoping to take its love for the game and South Florida to the bigger stage in front of thousands of fans.

" The kids, the kids love it, they just love playing baseball," said Coach Michael Tomas. "They love being out here, being with their friends. As long as they are out here, that's all that they care about, playing baseball."

But getting to the regional stage is a financial challenge for the team of 10-year-old boys.

According to the team's website, "These boys have worked extremely hard and want to represent Indian River County and Vero Beach at the regionals, but the funds required are simply too great for our players to bear on their own. The entire Indian River County Cal Ripken 10u team sincerely appreciates your consideration and support during this unbelievably exciting time for these boys. Please consider donating to help our team travel to North Carolina to represent our community."

The team is looking to the community for support so that they can knock regionals out of the ballpark.

"So we're just looking for the community, any, every little bit helps," Tomas said. "Whatever you guys feel in your hearts. It's just for these 10-year-old boys to have the most memorable times of their lives."

All fundraising for the trip to the Regional Championship will be used for:

  • Regional Tournament Entry Fee
  • Team travel
  • Lodging costs
