The California mass shooting at a bar on college night is yet another tragedy felt across the nation, including right here in Palm Beach County.
At the Irishmen Restaurant & Pub, staff members are taking a closer look at their own security measures.
Owner Rossa Flood says Thursday night is College Night at The Irishmen.
His staff members are reviewing basic security protocols, like securing all exits and entrances before closing.
“It’s horrifying,” Flood said. “You think, ‘That could be my place, that could be my staff, that could be my guests.’ It’s horrifying to see something like that.”
There are dozens of surveillance cameras both inside and outside the building.
He says there are two levels of security: one guard in the front, another in the back.
“Some of our security guards are licensed in ways that your bartenders and waitresses are not," he said. "They take the security courses."
But Flood said there’s work to do.
“With this most recent incident, we’re going to have to do a little more training, I’m going to have to look into what we’re going to do," he said.
Flood wants additional police detail especially on the weekends.
“We’re very lucky here in Boca Raton, we have a great police department," he said. "They’re right down the street and their response is excellent.”
