Remembering a Florida father, husband and professional fisherman.
A candlelight vigil is planned for Sunday night in memory of Nik kayler.
He’s the man who died who died on Lake Okeechobee while competing in a fishing tournament.
The candlelight vigil called “Light up Dike” is a way for people to show support for Kayler’s family.
Even though Kayler was from the Orlando area, his sudden death affected the South Florida fishing community and those who live near the lake.
Officials said Kayler and his fishing partner were competing in tournament when their boat hit a wave, which threw Kayler from the boat.
Kayler’s partner turned up that night with his damaged boat near Pahokee Marina.
The days following Kayler’s disappearance officials searched by air and water.
A week later a commercial fishing boat found Kayler’s body near the Clewiston water tower, about two miles out in the lake.
“ Light up the Dike” is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Sunday at Lake Okeechobee.
