We can all learn something about the secret of a long marriage from this Delray Beach couple you are about to hear from.
The pair has been married for 70 years.
And tonight, family surprised them to celebrate the couple’s long-lasting love.
Ralph and Helen Nathan have been married for 70 years.
“You don’t notice each other growing old when you live with somebody,” Ralph said.
Ralph and Helen met during World War II when Ralph was in the navy.
He and his buddy crashed Helen’s cousin’s wedding.
“She came over and said, would you like to sit with us? And I said, why not? So, we sat together, and of course every dance was together,” Ralph said.
And the rest is history.
“I just felt it. I don’t know how I knew, but as soon as I met him I knew he was the one,” Helen said.
They spent most of their life in Massachusetts, Ralph as an optometrist, and Helen as a secretary while raising a family.
Going through good times, and bad, when their son died.
“I’ll cry again for him,” Ralph said.
To celebrate their long-lasting love the couple’s grandchildren gave well wishes in a video.
But little did they know, their grandkids made the trip down from up north.
“I am overwhelmed, I am overwhelmed,” Helen said.
So what is the secrets to a long marriage?
Helen and Ralph say it is about respect, and love, and marrying your best friend.
“Have a sense of humor. If you lose that, you lose a lot. And he still makes me laugh,” Helen said.
