PBSO deputy hospitalized after a suspect mowed him down in Lake Worth

A deputy is in the hospital after a suspect mowed him down during an investigation in Lake Worth on Thursday.

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, an undercover deputy was hit by the suspect's car while he conducted a stop.

Deputies say just before 1 p.m. , deputies were notified of a suspicious maroon Dodge Pickup truck near Military Trail and Purdy Lane. While deputies attempted the stop, the suspect vehicle fled at a high rate of speed.

Around 2 p.m., the undercover deputy tried to pull over what appeared to be the suspicious vehicle near Greengate Circle, according to PBSO. The deputy gave commands for the suspects to get out of the vehicle. The driver complied, however, the passenger moved over to the driver's side, put the truck in reverse and hit the gas. The vehicle hit the deputy and his vehicle. The driver continued until he hit a fence. The suspect then fled on foot and was arrested nearby.

According to deputies, three people are in custody.

The sheriff's office says the deputy has been taken to St. Mary's Medical Center, and the deputy's injuries are non-life-threatening.
