A 36-year-old woman was arrested this week for slapping a special needs student, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said.

Schugita A. Thomas, who worked as a bus monitor for the Monroe School Bus Company, got involved in a physical altercation with a nonverbal student on June 19 while the bus was parked at B.O.C.E.S. on 41 O’Conner Road.

Monroe School Bus conducted its own investigation, and the sheriff’s office arrested Thomas on Tuesday.

She is facing charges of harassment, unlawful imprisonment, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Thomas was arraigned in Perinton Court and released on her own recognizance.

She is due back in court on Aug. 29.
