Florida reports 8,552 new coronavirus cases (FDOH)

The Florida Department of Health is reporting 8,552 new coronavirus cases and 187 new deaths.

According to the latest data, the total number of cases in the state is 526,577 with 8,238 total deaths.

On Friday, Florida surpassed the 8,000 death count. In the state's report for Saturday, every single county in our area saw an increase in its death toll. Palm Beach County had the most reported new deaths at 10.

The state positivity rate for Saturday's numbers is 9.91 percent, lower than the positivity rate for Aug. 6 but still higher than the 8.34 percent rate seen on Wednesday, which was the lowest since the end of July, according to the state report. The average age for people infected with the virus has remained steady at 42 since at least the end of July.
