A Palm Tran bus lost a tire while heading northbound on I-95 at the Boynton Beach Blvd exit, causing major gridlock in both directions Thursday morning.

A CBS12 photographer called 911 to report the crash, just before 6 a.m.

The Florida Highway Patrol says a rear wheel and rim literally just fell off the bus, causing the driver to lose control and ram into another vehicle, then plow into a light post, which fell into the southbound lanes.

The wheel and rim of the bus jumped the median wall and landed on the hood of a pickup truck in the southbound lanes.

Only the driver of the bus and the driver on one of the vehicles were taken to Bethesda Hospital with minor injuries. They were both released shortly after.

Palm Tran tells CBS12 that safety is their top priority.

They are making the service records of the bus and the driving history of the driver available to investigators.

They also plan on conducting their own internal investigation into the cause of crash.
