The Florida Department of Corrections is investigating how an inmate ended up with a cell phone.

Samuel Carswell, 28, is serving a five-year prison sentence in South Bay for armed robbery and several other charges.

He's now facing a new charge of possession of contraband in a state correctional institution.

Authorities found him with a Samsung cell phone on the grounds of the South Bay Correctional Facility last September. According to the report, Carswell initially denied having the phone. He also refused to say who gave him the phone or how it ended up in his possession.
