Inmate work crews help clean up post-Irma destruction

The Saint Lucie County Sheriff's Office Inmate work crews have helped bring city facilities back to normal after Hurricane Irma.

According to SLCSO, six work crews, made up of 48 inmates, have spent more than 370 combined hours of cleaning.

The inmates are cleaning the main and St. Lucie West Courthouse, State Attorney's Office, Jail, Sheriff's Office, Supervisor of Elections Office and roadways along Indian River Drive and Walton Road.

By helping clean and repair the city, the work crews have saved taxpayers more than $32,000.
