Jury selection is underway for 28-year-old Marlin Joseph, a man accused of gunning down his mother's girlfriend and her daughter in 2017.
West Palm Beach police say Joseph shot and killed 36-year-old Kaladaa Crowell, then chased her 11-year-old daughter, Kyta Inglett, outside and shot her in the head and arm.
Inglett was taken to the hospital, where she later died.
Police say Crowell and Joseph had been arguing about Kyra's bad attitude and how she wasn't getting along with the other children who lived in the home. Police say things escalated and Joseph opened fire.
"We don’t think that any of this should have happened," Inglett's friend said.
The trial will resume Tuesday morning and the state is seeking the death penalty.
