A man pulled out a gun and ordered a car burglar to the ground when he found him rummaging through his car in Boynton Beach earlier this week, according to authorities.
Boynton Beach police arrested 19-year-old Dathan Kibler of Lake Worth on felony auto burglary charges after he was found to have taken items from multiple cars at the Tuscany.
Police say they responded to a call about a man with a firearm with a suspect on the ground in the first level of the parking garage at the Tuscany. The man told police he walked into the garage to find Kibler exiting the driver's side of his white Ford van.
The man took out his gun from the backpack he carried and ordered Kibler to get out of his car, according to the report. The man also discovered that he was missing his black Apple iPod, which officers later found in Kibler's jean shorts.
Kibler admitted that he burglarized the car because he "needed the money," the police report noted.
Kibler also told officers that he rummaged through other cars, saying "I tried every car in the car lot, but most were locked." Officers discovered various items such as gift cards, phone chargers, lottery tickets, a $100 check, 2 lighters in Kibler's pockets, the arrest report noted.
Other victims included a retired police officer who lives in Seagate, a nearby community, and a woman who noted that her gym bag had been gone through, according to the police. The retired officer told police his badge had been taken.
Many of the victims noted that they had possibly left their vehicles unsecured, police say.
Kibler was arrested and taken to the Palm Beach County Jail.
