Man tries to save wife from rip current in Jupiter, woman dies

A woman from Virginia drowned in Jupiter on Friday night.

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, 40-year-old Erica Ramos was swimming with her husband and friends in the ocean just before 9 p.m. near Ocean Cay Park when a rip current carried her away. Her husband tried to rescue her but couldn't. A bystander ultimately pulled her to shore.

Ramos died at the hospital. The investigation is pending a toxicology report and autopsy by the medical examiner, according to the sheriff's office.
