Re-sentencing for teen convicted of murdering parents continues (WPEC)

Tyler Hadley, the man who killed his parents as a teenager before throwing a party with their bodies still in the house, will be re-sentenced later this month.

The St. Lucie Clerk said the date is set for Dec. 20, five days before Christmas.

Authorities said Hadley, as a 17 year old, beat Mary Jo and Blake Hadley to death at their home in Port St. Lucie in 2011 with a hammer, striking them more than 70 times.

Hadley initially received a life sentence in 2014 for the killings. But a new state law required a new review of all cases of minors convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison.

Hadley, now 24, apologized in court in October.

Prosecutors want life in prison. Hadley's attorneys are pushing for the minimum sentence of 40 years with a review after 25.
