Nikolas Cruz wants inheritance to be donated

Nikolas Cruz appeared before a judge today to decide if he needs to have a public defender or if he has the money to hire his own legal support. (WPEC)

A judge grants the court more time to determine who will represent Nikolas Cruz in a case that could result in the death penalty.

Cruz is currently represented by the Broward Public Defender’s Office, but depending on his bank account, could be required to hire a private attorney.

Attorneys say Cruz has $353.43 in his Wells Fargo bank account. However, he is the beneficiary to his deceased mother’s estate.

However, attorneys say Cruz does not want the money, regardless. He says he wants it donated to a non-profit to help the Broward community.

Attorneys also say Cruz is willing to plead guilty to save taxpayers money.

The next court date is scheduled for April 27.
