An investigation is underway after gunfire erupted just steps away from where children were playing.
One person was killed and a second seriously injured.
Fort Pierce Police say it happened at Avenue O and 13th Street at Lincoln Regional Park just before 8:00 Sunday night.
As of Monday morning, investigators say they are talking to a person of interest who may have been involved in the shooting but no arrests have been made.
Mark Hadden, a community activist, was at the park when the shooting happened.
He told CBS12 that a large group of people were gathered there for a weekly community event, involving many young children and teens.
He says the gathering aims to bring local families together to enjoy activities, music, and sports; it's all in an effort to curb the gun violence by providing a safe place for young people to go to have fun.
Police have not yet released the names of the victims.
Right now investigators are working to determine if the shooter was on foot or in a vehicle before they open fire and fled.
