Two men were arrested early Tuesday morning while trying to eat marijuana and ignoring police.
Port St. Lucie police say they saw a vehicle with no tag light at the intersection of SW Gatlin Boulevard and SW Port St. Lucie Boulevard. Officers tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the vehicle ignored the lights and sirens, and drove another 1.5 miles before coming to a stop.
The passenger of the vehicle, Da‘jour Shamarie Harper, got out of the vehicle while chewing on something, according to police. He was chewing on a "green leafy substance" that was in his mouth, teeth and tongue. The driver, Trent Henley, also had the same substance in his mouth.
Harper told police they did hear the sirens but ignored them while they drove so they could eat the marijuana. Police say they also learned Harper is on felony drug probation, which is why they tried to eat the marijuana.
It's believed they ate about a quarter ounce of marijuana.
Harper was charged with tampering/destruction of evidence, and violation of probation, according to police. Henley was charged with tampering/destruction of evidence, possession of drug paraphernalia, and given citations for equipment violation, fleeing and eluding, and possession of an open container.
