Gov. Ron DeSantis' message to Floridians is to protect people who are more susceptible to the coronavirus.

"If I had to say one message for folks, I would say protect the vulnerable," DeSantis told reporters during a news conference Tuesday afternoon.

The governor spoke from the Loggerhead MarineLife Center in Juno Beach after he signed a bill intended to protect Florida's environment.

DeSantis reiterated his confidence with Florida's testing efforts, specifically speaking on the measures the state has taken to test staff members of nursing homes.

Florida has seen record increases of coronavirus cases within the past two weeks, with more than 5,000 reported since Monday.

The governor once again doubled down on his decision to "not go back" and reverse course on the phased openings in the state.
