The Martin County Board of Commissioners announced Tuesday that all public beaches will be closed for the July 4th weekend to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

This emergency order includes the closure of all public beaches, associated boardwalks, walkways, dedicated public parking areas and the area on the beach beginning at the entrance of the beach, according to commissioners. However, this doesn't apply to property owners, residents or visitors who may access the beach via private crossovers.

Palm Beach, Broward, Monroe and Miami-Dade counties have also closed beaches for the holiday weekend.

The closure will be in effect from Thursday, July 2 at 6 p.m. until Monday, July 6 at 7 a.m.
