Sebastian Inlet State Park Pier is open Thursday night after being closed on Wednesday night due to big waves.
The pier manager said they decided to keep the pier open because the forecast shows the waves aren't expected to be as big, only four to six feet. On Wednesday night, they were much bigger.
The pier was scheduled to open at 3 p.m. and close again at 6 p.m., but the pier opened around 8:30 Thursday morning. The fishermen were extremely happy they got to use the pier to fish during the day, even if they got a little wet.
Drew Ashley is one fishermen who said a little water isn't going to hurt, especially after everything he's been through.
"See how many fingers I got, five time cancer survivor. Beat leukemia three times. A lot of us didn’t make it," he said.
Ashley said he was just happy Hurricane Florence didn't hit Florida. He said they can handle a little rough surf on a gorgeous day.
"Beautiful ocean scanning Sebastian Inlet," he said.
And by the end of the day, Ashley wound up further up the pier.
"I like to consider myself a semi-professional fisherman," he said.
