A woman was being evaluated Thursday afternoon after being exposed to a suspicious white powder in the Palm Beach County Courthouse, West Palm Beach Fire Rescue said.
Firefighters received the call when the courthouse was getting ready to close. Several fire trucks were parked near Quadrille and Banyan boulevards.
The female employee was scanning envelopes when white powder spilled out of one of them, according to fire officials. The woman was treated at the scene and the hazmat team found the white powder to be a "benign substance." As the woman was being evaluated, everyone on the third floor was forced to stay in place.
The scene has now been cleared.
