A 15-year-old boy was killed Friday night after getting hit by an undercover deputy, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.

The tragic event happened a little before 6:30 p.m. near 124th Avenue and Florida Avenue.

The deputy was driving north on Florida Avenue in an unmarked vehicle, according to the sheriff's office. As he went through a green light at the intersection of 124th and Florida Avenue, he saw a person walking a bike across the street. He swerved to avoid that person, but ended up hitting a 15-year-old boy walking with someone else.

The boy didn't survive.

The deputy has been with the sheriff's office a little over five years.
