Two men from Miami were arrested Tuesday night after a pursuit that ended in Palm Beach County, Stuart police said.
A citizen saw two men running out of Home Depot with a shopping cart filled with Dewalt tool kits around 9:30 p.m., according to police. After getting the call, an officer quickly found the suspect vehicle.
Police say the officer activated his emergency lights to pull over the vehicle, but instead of stopping, the suspect quickly backed up to get away. In doing so, police say the getaway vehicle crashed into another vehicle behind it with no regard. They sped up and fled the scene.
The pursuit started from Kanner Highway onto I-95 southbound, police said. The chase continued into Palm Beach County, where Palm Beach Gardens police helped Stuart police.
Police say when the pursuit ended, Steven Mathieu and Deandre St. Aubin, both of Miami, were placed under arrest.
Mathieu was charged with felony retail theft, fleeing and eluding officers, leaving the scene of a traffic crash and resisting arrest without violence, according to police. St. Aubin was charged with felony retail theft.
Both were transported to the Palm Beach County Jail and face additional charges in that jurisdiction.
