ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (CBS12)- A man from northeast Florida tried to get on a plane with a rocket propelled grenade launcher in his luggage, the TSA said Tuesday.
Authorities said the traveler's checked bag set off the alarms Monday at the Lehigh Valley International Airport near Allentown, just north of Philadelphia.
Officers with the Transportation Security Administration opened the bag to find unassembled parts of an RPG launcher with a replica grenade packed inside. The TSA said fortunately the device was not a functioning launcher.
Security workers tracked the man down at the departure gate. He was from St. Augustine and on his way to Orlando. According to the TSA, he believed he could bring the item on the plane.
The items are now the property of the TSA. The agency wants to remind people real weapons or replicas are not allowed on planes.
