A 38-year-old man was arrested Wednesday for reportedly hanging a dog from a tree, then attacking a child who wouldn't help him hide the dog's body, WTSP reported.

According to WTSP, Robert Leroy Edwards took an electrical cord, tied it around the dog's neck and hung it outside because "the dog was barking." Edwards then went into the house, woke up a child -- a family member -- and told him to help him hide the dog's body. When the child refused, Edwards beat him.

After hearing all the noise, the dog's owner came down to find out what was happening, WTSP reported. When he saw what happened to the dog, he started arguing with Edwards, who then started beating him.

According to WTSP, the dog's owner was able to call 911 and have Edwards arrested.

Edwards is facing multiple charges, including child abuse, torture to inflict physical injury or death, contributing to the delinquency of a child and battery, jail records show. He's currently in custody at the Manatee County Jail, where he's being held on a $62,000 bond.
