New England Patriots tight end, Rob Gronkowski announced that he will retire from the NFL Sunday afternoon.

The Patriots' tight end announced his retirement on Instagram.

"I will be retiring from the game of football today. I am so grateful for the opportunity that Mr. Kraft and Coach Belichick gave to me when drafting my silliness in 2010," he wrote.

The tight end is leaving his mark on the NFL: he had over 10 touchdown receptions in five seasons, which is the most by a tight end in NFL history.

In his nine seasons with the Patriots, Gronkowski had 79 touchdowns and netted 7,861 receiving yards.
