The Dolphins record-breaking receiver now has a new home. Our partners at the Sun-Sentinel have confirmed reports that Jarvis Landry has been traded from the Fins to the Cleveland Browns for one 2018 and one 2019 draft pick. The details on those picks have not been released.
In two of Landry's four seasons in Miami, he broke the franchise record for catches in a season. But the two sides could not agree to terms on a new contract during the final year of his rookie deal. In four years, he made slightly under 4 million dollars, and was not one of the 100 highest paid wide receivers in the NFL in 2017, despite leading the league in catches.
The Dolphins signed Landry to the franchise tag, meaning that they would have been on the hook to pay him $16 million this year. But now that looks like the right decision, as instead of losing him as a free agent and getting nothing in return, the Fins are getting two Cleveland Browns draft picks. The Browns will be on the hook to pay Landry $16 million, unless they can agree to a long term deal.
The Fins retain DeVante Parker and Kenny Stills as their top receivers coming back. The Browns add Landry to what could be a fearsome receiving corps, with Josh Gordon and Corey Coleman.
