For the first time, Boynton Beach will allow dogs on the beach at Oceanfront Park during a “test run” event beginning next week.
On Saturday, Dec. 15 from 9 a.m. to noon, residents and non-residents can bring their dogs right here to Oceanfront Park to play.
Owners are required to bring their pets on a leash to the fenced-off area at the northern end of the beach -- just south of the middle beach access ramps -- where they can then roam free and play in the water.
There is a two dogs-per-person limit. Owners must also clean up after their dog, cannot bring any food, cannot throw objects such as balls or frisbees, and must have a leash in hand at all times. Female dogs in heat are also prohibited from entering the park.
If all goes smoothly, the city may consider allowing dogs at Oceanfront Park on a regular basis, but at certain days of the week with restricted hours.
If you can’t wait until the 15th, there are some other dog friendly areas here in boynton. Including:
Intracoastal Park at 2240 N. Federal Highway
Jaycee Park at 2600 S. Federal Highway
Dewey Park at 100 NE Fourth St.
Boynton Lakes at 300 Boynton Lakes Blvd.
Boynton Village Park and Dog Park at 800 Renaissance Commons Blvd. N.
As for the trial run at Oceanfront Park,
owners will have to have a license that shows their pets are currently vaccinated for rabies. They will also be asked to leave the park if their dogs act aggressively.
