The Pahokee football team is extra focused on the task at hand as they start the season on Friday night, taking on a very talented Palm Beach Lakes team. Their 2016 State Championship was officially taken away because of an ineligible player, a pain that's made them extra motivated,

"It's always tough when you see your kids disappointing after they've worked so hard," says Blue Devils head coach Orson Walkes. "It was important to kind of get the season rolling and to put that behind us."

"It was like a stab in the heart," recalls senior Lonkevious McFadden. "Everything we worked for, they took it away from us."

But as heartbreaking as it was to officially lose the State title they had worked so hard for, the Blue Devils found a bright side..It somehow brought them closer than they'd ever ever been before.

"It kind of gave us the mentality of we have to keep grinding," explains Walkes. "We have to keep working hard, we have to do the things it takes to win football games, we have to represent the school the right way, and this team the right way."

"I mean it hurt or whatever," adds Sophomore Latarie Kinsler. "But at the end of the day it made us work harder this year, and we're prepared for anything now."
