The Major League Baseball Draft kicks off with its first two rounds on Monday night. One local high school player may hear his name called on day one.
James Marinan is hoping to continue the proud Park Vista High School baseball tradition and follow in the footsteps of guys like Austin Smith and Trea Turner.
The Hurricanes commit was getting all limbered up this week with a light workout at Cressey Sports Management in Jupiter prior to heading to Houston for a workout with the Astros. Marinan was disappointed with his progress last year at this time.
But his velocity skyrocketed in his senior season, attracting 50 to 60 scouts to some of his late season games. Being able to perform under big league pressure was a tough test.
Marinan says the decision on whether he plays for the 'Canes or goes pro will all depend on how high he's drafted and what how much he is offered.
