A once-stranded manatee is now getting a second chance at life after being rehabilitated by the FWC.

On Wednesday, the 1,020-pound manatee was released back into the ocean after being with the FWC for a few months.

Tequesta Police responded to a call about a distressed manatee that became stuck in a canal in April.

Authorities said the manatee was not able to swim back and got stuck in a shallow area then beached itself when the tide went out.

Officers, with the help of the FWC, were able to take in the manatee for treatment and further evaluation until its release this week.
