The 7-year-old boy fatally gunned down while sleeping in Riviera Beach Wednesday has been identified by family members as Dexter Fergusson Jr.

His aunt, Cayla Hunter-Lyons, described him as loveable. His nickname was Peanut.

The mourning mother, Addiscia Ball, 27, spoke exclusively to CBS12 News Thursday afternoon.

"I am really going to miss him so much" said Ball.

The shooting happened just after midnight on Wednesday at an apartment complex on AC Evans Street,

Ball was shot multiple and and so was Dexter. Her 5-year-old son is recovering from the trauma.

“I don’t think he understand his brother is gone and not coming back that his best friend is not here anymore," said Ball.

The Riviera Beach Police Department said they were called to the same apartment earlier in the day to break up a neighborhood dispute.

Detectives did not confirm that the people who live above Ball were involved in the shooting, but neighbors say those who lived there moved out.

Ball says she has a message for the Riviera Beach community.

“Just put the guns down, just one mistake one thought that you have to go shoot somebody just think about the pain and suffering you will put somebody through,” said Ball.

The family is working on putting together a vigil. A gofundme page has been set up to help with funeral expenses.
